A random evening turned into local hawker fare delights for me!

Clockwise from bottom left:

“Cai Tao Kway” (or “Char Kway” - Carrot Cake, if you prefer), (Lousy!) “Roti John”, “Or Jian” (Oyster Omelette), Chicken and Mutton Satay, and BBQ Chicken Wings in the centre!

I would say it’s pretty pricey, but if you’re in a group it’s okay…? I think we spent about $40+ on these.

Love at First Bite?: Yes, only for the “Cai Tao Kway” and Satay!

MAKANSUTRA GLUTTONS BAY

#01-15 Esplanade Mall (Beside DXO)

Opening Hours: 6.00pm - 3.00am Daily

Chanced upon this Limited Edition Kit Kat at Isetan Scotts Basement Supermarket after my Japanese Mock Exam. Friends who know me know that I’m not a big fan of chocolate at all, but I was attracted to the packaging…what to do? It was retailing at about $2+.

It had a lovely nutty fragrance to it, but the overall taste was just too sweet for my liking. It was…sickeningly sweet. And I meant it in a bad way.

Love at First Bite?: No! Confectionery is really not my cup of tea.

I’m sorry for the lack in posts! A lot of happenings in my Life of late, just could not bring myself to blog. But I’m back! At least for a while…The Boyfriend and I were wandering around the East Coast Road area when we came upon Aston’s Specialties. For the first time I did not see the queue that seems to snake around to Joo Chiat! Just before the lunch crowd came in, we decided to give it a try.

You pay for your food at the entrance, and you get to choose 2 side dishes for your mains! So it’s like Kenny Rogers but better since there are so many styles of cooking for the meat. The Boyfriend ordered the Chicken and Sausage combo, with a choice of Black Pepper Sauce. I ordered Duo Chicken, with choice of Lemon Lime & Barbeque Sauce. The chicken was really tender, service was quick. Mmm, I suppose it’s the kind of place you’d like to go with your group of friends, or family! Pretty affordable. (:

Next stop would be Astons Prime, which is round the corner!

Love at First Bite?: No, but the affordable fare will lure me back.

Opening Hours: 11.30am - 11.00pm

Tel. No.: 6247 7857

I’ve first heard of it from visiting the Waraku website, and afterwards from Glen. So I thought I should try this place with my bestie, Sue!

You can view the menu here

Reservations are definitely recommended here, but Sue and I were really lucky to get the seats in about 15 minutes. We spent another 15 minutes or so thinking about what to eat! Spoilt for choice seriously.  We ordered a Half and Half Set (Salad + Soup + Mini Portion of 2 Pastas and a Drink)

Refreshing starter

The really “corny” corn soup, which if at a la carte costs, get this, $8. But the soup was soooo good, there’s nothing like it. It doesn’t have the layer of film that some soups have after a while, if you know what I mean.

Sue’s “Grape” Juice turned out to be grapefruit juice.

We ordered TWO baskets of these…HahA they were that good. It looks oily but it isn’t, the batter was thin, the calamari was cooked just right and was really flavourful.

Sue’s Carbonara

Standard Mentaiko Pasta for me, but I still prefer the one over at Ma Maison

Hamburg with Demi Glace Sauce..YUM! But Ma Maison is better…HahA

I forgot the name of this Parfait! But the vanilla ice cream wasn’t too sweet, and the slightly sour strawberries were a good match with the strawberry sauce.

This wonderful dinner was enhanced by wonderful company! (:

How can I resist Japanese snack packaging? It’s simply so attractive, and they always have quirky flavours available! Here are some pictures which I’ve taken..

On the left it’s Chicken Consomme Flavoured, on the right it’s Salted.

Guess what flavour?

Tuna Mayonnaise! LoL Taste like it.

Limited Edition! (:

Look at how thick the chips are!
